David Graeber Discusses The History of Debt
Usury (charging interest for loans) was condemned by the world’s great religions, and debt has been used to legitimize certain questionable power religions throughout history. When someone is forced to sell her labor to pay impossibly high interest rates, she could be considered to be a “debt slave.” Graeber is an expert on this topic and was interviewed by by Democracy Now here:
